unplanned work

Work that is unanticipated and its occurrence requires an evaluation as to whether planned work in progress should be interrupted. Learning into the problem or solution and consequently identifying additional planned work does not create unplanned work unless the newly identified work is urgent enough that there is a desire to interrupt planned work in progress. Contrast with planned work. Synonymous with interrupt-driven work.
